Lonnie Holley's inaugural exhibition in the South, Lonnie Holley: If You Really Knew, showcases the remarkable artistic journey of this talented individual over several decades. The exhibition offers a close and intimate examination of Holley's prolific career, providing insights into his diverse body of work.
As the designer for this exhibition, I took inspiration from Lonnie's paintings and sculptures, which beautifully depict organic and fluid forms while reflecting the essence of hardship and earthiness. To create the brand identity, I incorporated elements from one of his paintings featured in the exhibition, A Border is Just a Line, using its unique line as a tracing across the typography within the title. The selected fonts on the logo effectively capture the juxtaposition elements present in his works, encompassing a wide spectrum from soft organic forms to rugged and deconstructed solids. Moreover, the color palette draws inspiration from Lonnie's sand sculptures.
While most of the design elements maintain the exhibition's branding, some of the print materials are strategically aligned with the new museum's branding colors and design elements. This approach helps introduce the new museum branding while ensuring a cohesive and harmonious overall experience for visitors.
